INFO

In 1996 I made a documentary about divorced dads in America and began to realize that I was not alone out there, either in my angst over not having my children in my line of sight daily, or my numerous unsuccessful relationships (and marriages), or my nagging guilt over the consequences of many ill-thought out actions, some reprehensible, some ridiculous. That my mistakes were anything but unique gave me little consolation. What it did, however, was make me look, hard and fast, at the scrap heap of chaos we as men had left behind and forced to me to wonder how such “good men” could wreak such havoc on loved ones, especially our children.
The result is my film, Shattered. It doesn’t answer that question - or any other. It simply puts forth our behavior, good and bad, as it occurs and asks us to take an honest look at it. Will it change anybody’s lives? Can’t answer that one either. The good news is that most men and women - divorced, married or single - survive despite one another. We only hope our kids can survive us. Ten years later, my two favorite phrases as a divorced dad have become “I don’t know” and I love you”. And they have found their way into Shattered.
